One of the two pipes in this Madison Lake home will bring 50-degree liquid into a heat pump, giving it a head start for heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. The second pipe will return the liquid — much warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter after being used by the heat pump — for a trip 180 feet below the surface where constant ground temperatures will restore the liquid to 50 degrees.
