Sen. Al Franken drives a combine at the rural Vernon Center farm of Kevin and Julie Paap. The farmer harvested most of his corn last week, but saved five acres for the senator, calling it the “Franken 5.” Franken said jokingly that he worried farmers would come to apply this nickname to their worst area of crops.
