MANKATO —
A man who walked into some woods on the south edge of Mankato with a cased gun Saturday afternoon was taken into custody by police and brought to the Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital's psychiatric ward.
The man, about 31 years old, was seen walking into woods near the Tanager Path apartments off Stadium Road in Mankato, leading police to evacuate some of the homes. A call to police said the man was suicidal.
At least one block of townhomes was evacuated at about 5 p.m., and police armed with assault rifles maintained a perimeter.
The man was taken into custody at about 6:45 p.m. No one was hurt.
Eight jurisdictions responded to the incident.
