MINNEAPOLIS —
Freshman quarterback Philip Nelson will make his debut at the University of Minnesota in Saturday's game at Wisconsin, according to the Star Tribune.
Nelson had been expected to redshirt this season, but senior MarQueis Gray has been injured and sophomore Max Shortell has been inconsistent in the last two losses.
Nelson, who holds nearly every passing record at Mankato West, was Minnesota's Mr. Football last season.
It's unclear if he'll start the game, but other sources said he'll play. Nelson did not return messages Friday.
Today's game begins at 11 a.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
