Mavericks victorious at Pepsi Tip-Off Classic

MSU men overwhelm Lopers 108-68
There’s little doubt this year’s Minnesota State men’s basketball team is one of the most athletic and talented teams in recent memory.

Saturday night at Bresnan Arena, the Mavericks used a suffocating man-to-man defense and a high-octane offense to overwhelm Nebraska-Kearney 108-68 in the Pepsi Tip-Off Classic.

Jermain Davis scored 16 points for the Mavs and was named tournament MVP.

Noreen leads Maverick women past Waldorf

One night after Jennie Noreen scored a career-high 18 points against Grand View, she was already just a point away from passing that mark by halftime against Waldorf (Iowa) Saturday at Bresnan Arena.

Noreen topped her personal best again, finishing with a team-high 21 points as the Mavericks coasted to 104-77 win over the Warriors in the Pepsi Tip-Off, in which Noreen was voted MVP.

“It’s been an adrenaline rush being in the starting lineup,” Noreen said. “It’s better than averaging two points a game last year.”
