Day, Frederickson, Rosen, Neuville win

Owatonna — State Sen. Dick Day won re-election against DFL challenger Jeremy Eller.

Day had 16,148 votes (55 percent) to Eller’s 13,449 votes (45 percent).

Day, a five-term Republican from Owatonna, won his first election in 1990 and has been re-elected by wide margins in recent elections.

Eller ran against Day in 2002, garnering 36 percent of the vote.

Day has a keen interest in transportation issues and has often been at the center of many high-profile debates over highway funding, light rail and Minnesota Depart-ment of Transportation operations.

District 21

Republican state Sen. Dennis Frederickson of New Ulm easily retained the seat he has held for 26 years. With 73 percent of precincts reporting, Frederickson had 57 percent (9,897 votes).

This year, at least, Frederickson had opposition — he ran unopposed last time.

Democrat Margie Hoyt had 36 percent (6,363 votes) while Independent Brian Bretzman garnered 6 percent (1,074 votes).

District 24

First-term Republican Julie Rosen will be returning to the state Senate after beating Democrat David Wertjes. Rosen had 19,579 votes (62 percent) to Wertjes’ 11,880 votes (38 percent).

District 25

Republican Sen. Tom Neuville of Northfield won his race against Democrat Jessica Peterson. With 87 percent of precincts reporting, Neuville had 52 percent (16,096 votes) to Peterson’s 48 percent (15,050 votes).
