MANKATO — Downtown Mankato looked a lot different a few decades ago.
Businesses have come and gone, and buildings that still remain have undergone numerous changes, modernizing with the times.
For anyone who wondered what parts of downtown used to look like — specifically the pubs — the Blue Earth County Historical Society is offering a Historic Front Street Pub Crawl Friday.
The five stops will include: United Prairie Bank (Graif building), Raydiance Salon and R.L. Engebretson (Brett’s building), Carbone’s, The Underground and Buffalo Wild Wings. Five groups of 30 to 35 participants will be sent off at 6 p.m. to start at each of five businesses.
Free appetizers and drink specials will be offered at each business.
At each stop, a costumed character will give a five- to 20-minute talk about the history of the building and behind-the-scenes spots.
The group will spend 45 minutes at each location.
The tour is the first of other such events the historical society hopes to offer in the near future.
