Names & Notables 11/27/11

Sibley County Farm Bureau

The Sibley County Farm Bureau has been cited for its efforts in educating the public on agricultural workings.

The organization was presented with the Minnesota Farm Bureau’s Ag Literacy award for educating county children on aspects of hog production.

The Sibley County bureau distributed books on pigs to each third-grader in the county.

People’s Choice Award

Frentz Construction was voted the 2011 People’s Choice Award winner for the MRBA’s Fall Tour of Homes.

The winning design is a six bedroom, five bath home located in Mankato. This is the fourth Tour of Homes award for Frentz Construction. 

CityDesign Awards of Excellence

Rob Else and Tony Frentz of Neubau Holdings II, LLC and Frentz Construction received two Greater Mankato Growth CityDesign Awards of Excellence.

The US Bank Center was awarded in the Renovation Over $3 Million category and the I&S Group office within the US Bank Center was awarded in the Renovation Under $1 Million category. The building and office were designed by I&S Group.

U.S. Navy basic training

Navy Seaman Recruit Andrew D. Cambronne, a 2011 graduate of Montgomery-Lonsdale High School, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Fall Chess Tournament

Thirty-three students participated in the 2011 Fall Chess Tournament, hosted by South Central Service Cooperative and Mankato Community Education/Recreation. Students in grades 1-12 competed in primary, elementary, middle and upper divisions based on grade levels.

The Fall Tournament was a Swiss-style tournament in which students are not eliminated.

Students were awarded by grade level and also as division champions:

Grade 1:

1st — Matthew Smith, Monroe Elementary, Mankato; 2nd — Cole Javens, Kennedy Elementary, Mankato; 3rd — Jack Haggerty, Roosevelt Elementary, Mankato

Grade 2:

3rd — Griffin Post, Hoover Elementary, Mankato; 4th — Josiah Malone, Monroe Elementary, Mankato

Primary Division:

3rd — Matthew Smith, Monroe Elementary, Mankato; 4th — Griffin Post, Hoover Elementary, Mankato; 4th — Abbigayle Sandquist, Kennedy Elementary, Mankato

Grade 3:

1st — Fletcher Javens, Kenedy Elementary, Mankato; 2nd — Grant Haggerty, Roosevelt Elementary, Mankato; 3rd — Stephen Whipple, Falcon Ridge Elementary, New Prague

Grade 4:
