Closeup: Neil Simon play hits the Highland stage
MANKATO — Neil Simon’s hilarious play “Plaza Suite” is the third installment of Highland Summer Theatre.
The play, focusing on three couples at the Plaza Hotel in New York, opened Wednesday.
In Act I a suburban couple stays in the Plaza suite while their house is painted. The second couple is a man and his childhood sweetheart, who are both looking for a distraction from their lives. The third is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter to go to the ballroom where her wedding guests are waiting.
Each of the three couples staying at the hotel is portrayed by the same pair of actors, 1993 MSU Theatre alum E. J. Subkoviak and Susan V. Hansen, who will complete her MFA acting degree with this production.
This role marks Subkoviak’s 14th Highland Summer Theatre appearance. His other shows include “The Seven Year Itch” (2006) and “The Complete History of America (abridged)” (2005).
Subkoviak lives in the Twin Cities and can be seen playing the sluggish photographer in “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding.” He will also appear in the Science Museum of Minnesota’s “Titanic” exhibit as First Class Steward William McMurray.
