Closeup: Bethany to present French comedy ‘Tartuffe’
MANKATO — Bethany Lutheran College has done a Moliere play before: “The Imaginary Invalid,” during which Director Pete Bloedel put cameras backstage and showed all the action to the audience.
Bloedel has once again taken on the work of Moliere, with the French comedy “Tartuffe.” The play opens Friday in the Fine Arts Center at Bethany.
“Considered by some to be Moliere's most famous play, ‘Tartuffe’ (or ‘The Hypocrite’) tells the story of the man, Tartuffe, a complete hypocrite, who attempts to destroy a household and claim its fortune by deception and pretended piety,” according to a press release.
“Tartuffe” is Bethany’s fall play, following the annual presentation of “Theatre Physics.”
