“Project Runway” winner sure to disappoint
ust a couple of months ago we watched as 16 designers completed their first challenge on season six of “Project Runway,” the first season on Lifetime.
Sigh ... it seems like just yesterday. So sad when these great shows like “Runway” are on for such a short period of time, and then we spend the better part of a year waiting for a new season to begin.
Well, at least we’ve got a couple of more episodes left. And these are the most important of them all. Yes, folks, the two-part finale is upon us.
As we saw last week — which was no surprise to anybody paying attention this season — Gordana and Minnesota Chris were sent home. Hailing from Shakopee and having shown immense promise at the start of the season, Chris was a favorite for several weeks. But during the past five challenges, he floundered, and therefore, had to go. Gordana lacked vision pretty much the entire season, so she, too, had to be auf’d.
Who do we have left, you ask? Three lovely ladies who have consistently put forth great work on the runway, that’s who. Irina, Althea and Carol Hannah.
While the finale is always the most intense part of any “Runway” season, this year will be a bit more relaxed than usual. Simply put, Irina is a shoo-in.
Her work is far beyond the level of the other two. That’s probably hard to accept for many viewers, as Irina has also been consistent in another area: being a total jerk. She talks behind people’s backs, she’s outspoken about hating others’ work, and she’s totally arrogant. For this reason alone, Althea and Carol Hannah probably have gained quite a few sympathy votes.
As for their work, however, it’s just not up to snuff. Althea takes risks, which is cool. But her construction isn’t always up to par.
Carol Hannah does immaculate construction work, but she plays it safe and is kind of boring. Of the three, she’s definitely the dark horse.
But we’ve all got to make up our own minds on who deserves to win. Take a look at the three contestants again, and have a look at two of their best garments this season, and choose a candidate to root for tonight.
