Closeup: Symphony concert geared toward kids

MANKATO — In the Mankato Symphony Orchestra’s aim to continuously expand programming — broadening its scope to reach children and families — it will present a family-friendly concert in the “Handel” series Saturday.

The concert series is called “Handel With Care,” featuring the work of George Fredrick Handel. The concert Saturday is called “Handel Goes to Italy.”

In the series, the concerts follow Handel as he “travels the world, has madcap adventures and learns the languages and the music of his foreign ports of call,” says a symphony release on the event.

The concert set-up is informal and interactive. Young children may wander the room, and treats, free T-shirts and prizes will be given out.
