MANKATO —
When two national musical acts arrive in Mankato this week — their destination won’t be a thousand-seat arena.
Instead, Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony and Wayne Static (Static-X frontman) will be playing Buster’s Sports Bar and Grill.
“Live entertainment has always been a strength” for Buster’s, said owner Matt Little, whose Madison Avenue establishment has been no stranger to national acts in past years. “But we’ve been really digging in.”
Little said his intent has always been to provide a mix of bands and genres.
In past years, Buster’s has hosted everyone from country groups like Little Texas to rock acts like Bret Michaels and metal acts like SevenDust. And they host plenty of local favorites, including Hairball and 69 Cents.
Buster’s next two shows are in keeping with that theme.
Bone Thugs, the Cleveland-based quintet of Bone-monikered rappers, has been bringing their tightly packed, rapid-fire rhymes to audiences for two decades. Their 1996 studio album “E. 1999 Eternal” was nominated for three Grammy’s, winning one for the single “Tha Crossroads.”
Wayen Static, on the other hand, is the pornstar-marrying, mohawk-wearing, industrial-rocking frontman for Static-X — though, the band’s been on hiatus since 2009 when Static began focusing on his first solo release, (”Pighammer,” released in fall 2011).
Little said both acts were booked as a result of Buster’s growing relationship with music promoters.
“We try and keep them happy,” he said.
The Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony show is sold out; tickets are still available for the Wayne Static performance, which includes appearances from Polkadot Cadaver and Defiler.
