MANKATO —
A Mankato teen was killed when a semi and van collided head-on Friday morning on Highway 22, south of Mankato near Terrace View Golf Course.
Matthew P. Cherney, 16, was airlifted from the scene of the crash at about 7:50 a.m. The Minnesota State Patrol reported later that he died as a result of his injuries.
Clayton F. Sandmeyer, 67, of Mankato was driving a 1992 Mack semi pulling a trailer when the semi and a southbound 1999 Plymouth Voyager van Cherney was driving collided in the northbound lane of Highway 22. Sandmeyer suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic was detoured much of the morning to Blue Earth County Road 90 while the accident scene was cleared.
