Their plans to write a musical comedy for this year’s Fringe Festival were little more than the words “Robot Lincoln” when Travis Berg and Dustin Jackson filled out an application this March.
When the Minnesota State University students’ 45-minute play was randomly selected to be among the more than 160 shows in the Twin Cities festival and given a 460-seat theater to perform in, the pair quickly moved from aspirational to operational.
The play’s title, “Robot-Lincoln: The Revengeance!,” caught the eyes of the Twin Cities alternative newspaper City Pages, which decided to use the play for the cover of its Fringe Festival issue.
