MANKATO —
A woman is facing felony charges for allegedly attempting to stab a man she had earlier been attempting to kiss at a Mankato bar.
Police were called to Mully’s on Madison at about 2:18 a.m. Dec. 17 for a report of a disturbance. When they arrived, Juana Maria Trevino Garza and several men were arguing in the bar’s parking lot, according to a criminal complaint filed this week.
A witness told police Garza was arguing with another man in the bar about an hour earlier. When that man came out of the bar at closing time, Garza swiped at him several times with a knife, the witness said.
The alleged victim told police he had dated Garza in the past, but didn’t really know her. He said he had been in the bar’s bathroom and, when he came out, Garza was waiting for him.
He said he pushed her aside as she attempted to make out with him. Garza allegedly responded by punching him.
That conflict ended there, but Garza was waiting for him again when he left the bar. She swiped and poked at him with a knife, hitting his coat three times in the stomach area. He wasn’t cut.
The man said he didn’t want Garza to get into trouble, but he was concerned about her actions. Police records showed she had been arrested for assault twice before, the complaint said.
Garza was taken to a squad car and refused to cooperate, only saying that the men were hassling her. She had to be handcuffed because she was banging herself on the head with her cell phone, the complaint said.
She is facing felony charges of second-degree assault, stalking and two counts of felony domestic assault.
