ST PETER —
When Molly Olson first brought the idea of participating in the Polar Bear Plunge to her sorority five years ago, the buy-in was minimal — just she and another Minnesota State University student jumped into the freezing waters for a good cause.
But Saturday, as she came to St. Peter for her fifth plunge (this time as an alumna of the university and its Alpha Sigma Alpha chapter), she was joined by more than a dozen others. And more than that, her sorority was joined by a handful of other Greek organizations from MSU.
“It definitely strengthens the sisterhood,” Olson said.
St. Peter’s Polar Bear Plunge, a fundraiser for Special Olympics, is an annual event that gets bigger every year. This year’s event had about 100 more participants than last year, and it raised about $70,000.
