MANKATO —
A growing national campaign aimed at ending abortion has reached Mankato in its eighth year, and local participants gathered Tuesday to hear from one of the founders of “40 Days for Life.”
Standing in a parking lot off of Victory Drive near the local Planned Parenthood clinic, nearly 50 abortion opponents prayed with and listened to David Bereit as he offered history, statistics and encouragement to the fledgling Mankato group.
Bereit, a Texan when he and three others started the program and now a Washington, D.C. resident, said Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes but also a state where more than 11,000 abortion were performed last year.
“It struck me as terribly twisted,” he said.
