TRUMAN — I would like to comment on the extraordinary comments of state Rep. Tony Cornish in regards to his religion. Not everyone who stands in church is a Christian, anymore than anyone standing in a garden is a vegetable.
In Luke, Christ asks the Pharisees why they call him Lord and do not do what he says. I would address the same question to Cornish. The word of God is filled with admonitions to help the poor and heal the sick. For all of the rhetoric from self-proclaimed Christians, I would remind them of this.
We will one day all stand before God and answer to Him as to how we treated the “Least of these My brethren.” You will on that day be judged, not by your words, but by your deeds, and not by your synod, but by your actions. Good luck on that day.
As Ghandi once wrote, “Your Christ I like very much. It is Christians I have trouble with. They are so unlike this Christ.”
May all Christians someday be true followers of all of Christ’s teachings, and truly accept the responsibility lain on us to look on all people as the least of these my brethren. If that makes me a liberal, so be it.

Recent opinion polls show that less than one-third of Americans have a favorable opinion of Mitt Romney, and almost half, 49 percent, have an unfavorable opinion — a number that skyrocketed 15 percentage points in one month, according to a January ABC News/Washington Post poll.
