Your View: Overregulation is the reason for dissatisfaction

— A recent Your View writer offered a litany of government regulations that produced “groups of dissatisfied people.”

I do not dispute that. In a free society anytime a government attempts to restrict freedoms, those whose freedoms are being restricted will most likely be dissatisfied.

I think people in general accept that some government regulations — including a few listed by the writer — are necessary to maintain a stable society. But the way I see it, the problem is at least as much with overregulation as what the writer describes as “anti-regulatory attitudes.”

In my opinion, to suggest that “most griping is misguided due to human frailties like ignorance, selfishness, resistance to change, and insular attitudes” is nothing more than an elitist attitude that government always knows what is best for we the people.
