ST PETER — On Saturday, the Section 2A, Sub-Section 6 One-Act Play competition took place at St. Peter High School. Six area schools, including St. Peter, participated in this day-long event.
Admission is free to these competitions and attendees are treated to an incredibly diverse and enjoyable range of offerings. This is a judged competition with the top two teams advancing to the Section 2A contest, where only the winning performance will then advance to the state competition.
While the audience on Jan. 30 was treated to six noteworthy shows, ultimately St. Peter emerged in the number one spot with St. James earning the second place award.
The Free Press does a terrific job focusing on local happenings and devotes an entire section to sports, with lots of attention given to high school athletes in the region.
Sadly, our young actors, actresses and artists in general get short shrift. The one-act play competition is virtually the only competitive event our youth who are involved in theater can participate in. I’d like to see these young people get some recognition and appreciation for their talent and the countless hours of practice they put in to be winners. Their enriching contribution to our community is every bit as valid, exciting and entertaining as that of student athletes.
