In his recent Your View, Peter Etzell said allowing homosexual people to marry is a sign of the moral corruption of our country. In addition, he seems to think that it would undermine the very fabric of American society.
Etzell said “all orthodox Christian, Jewish and Muslim religions consider sodomy a serious sin.” He seems to forget there many American citizens that do not fall into any of these categories. Therefore, they do not need to adhere to these religious laws.
I eat meat on Fridays during Lent, should I be sent to jail?
As far as I’m concerned, sodomy laws are an outdated legal matter and should not be dealt with by the government. Since there is supposed to be a separation of church and state, and these laws are based on religious morality, they should be abolished.
As far as the Supreme Court hearing you mentioned in the case of Bowers vs. Hardwick, you also failed to mention that the 1986 ruling was overturned in 2003. The court stated, “Bowers was not correct when it was decided, and it is not correct today.” See Lawrence v. Texas, you’ll see that the Supreme Court states that such laws governing the sexual actions of consenting adults in their own homes are unconstitutional.
My views are as such: If you don’t agree with gay marriage, don’t marry a person of the same sex. If you think that sodomy is a sin, then don’t perform it.
Keep in mind though, I do not tell you what you can and cannot do in your bedroom, so keep your religious laws out of mine.

Recent opinion polls show that less than one-third of Americans have a favorable opinion of Mitt Romney, and almost half, 49 percent, have an unfavorable opinion — a number that skyrocketed 15 percentage points in one month, according to a January ABC News/Washington Post poll.
