I am extremely disappointed to hear about Mankato Mayor John Brady’s recent DWI here in the Twin Cities.
I am a 2007 graduate of Minnesota State University, and during my four years in Mankato, it seemed Brady and the City Council had nothing better to do than to blame the campus community at large for a supposed drinking problem within the city.
When the homecoming riots occurred in 2003, it was MSU students pigeon-holed as irresponsible alcoholics. When the tragedies of Amanda Jax and Rissa Amen-Reif occurred, it was again the student community at large blamed for giving Mankato a black eye.
Mankato is a wonderful town; I enjoyed my almost five years there. I met my wife there. I received a world class education there. My best friends in life are all proud Mavericks. Now, Mankato won’t be only be known as the riot town, or the drinking deaths town. It will also be known for its drunken mayor. And like those tragedies, that’s unfortunate.
In the future, let’s hope Brady and the City Council will remember its own glass house before casting the first stone.
