Your View: Walz looks out for Main Street

By Joan E. Christensen, North Mankato

NORTH MANKATO — It is time to put the interest of Main Street ahead of big corporate Wall Street bankers.

I was so glad to see Congressman Walz standing with individuals at the Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union, an institution that I served as chairwoman of the board of directors for over a decade.

Institutions like this credit union and small banks did not cause or create this awful economic environment, but they have been the lifeline for small communities.

We need to make sure those robber barons on Wall Street are finally regulated enough to protect the taxpayers of this great country. I know firsthand that Walz has always and will continue to look out for those of us here on Main Street. He demonstrated this when he opposed his party twice when they urged him to vote for the Wall Street bailout, not only under the Bush administration, but once again under the Obama administration.

Again, Walz stood against his party when they urged him to bail out the auto industry. Walz did the right thing by standing up for the taxpayers and serving our best interests.
