In regards to the little house on Garfield story, how embarrassing for the people of North Mankato to have their city administrator, mayor and city council once again show their fiscal irresponsibility by allowing this transaction to occur.
Who in their right mind would pay a premium price for a substandard structure? To put the $25,000 premium in perspective, it will take $5 million in retail sales to raise that much through the recently approved one-half percent sales/use tax. But our council can only do what it’s been trained to do, and that is, come review time, give the city administrator a 4 percent increase, tell him how lucky we are to have him, and even bump up his car allowance.
If you or I tried this with our employers, they would hand us a pink slip and have us escorted from the building.
Not a bad idea.

Recent opinion polls show that less than one-third of Americans have a favorable opinion of Mitt Romney, and almost half, 49 percent, have an unfavorable opinion — a number that skyrocketed 15 percentage points in one month, according to a January ABC News/Washington Post poll.
