Spear column: Free Press adds stocks, sports coverage

Life in general can be driven by money and games, but those topics also happen to make good content for a newspaper and its website.

We’ve begun offering more money news and sports news at mankatofreepress.com but on Saturday we will also bring back an almost nostalgic-like news item in printing a listing of New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ stock quotes.

We’ll add two pages of stock listings and one page of mutual fund listings. Each stock listing will provide the closing price, 52-week high and lows, dividends, yields and percent change for the week and year to date.

Through the support of the Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation The Free Press is able to provide the space for three extra pages of listings every week.

Sports expands

At the same time, The Free Press Media has added two new sports modules to its website. We now carry up-to-the-minute news on NCAA men’s basketball through April 15 and up-to-the-minute coverage of auto racing, including the popular NASCAR racing season that goes from now until the end of November.

The site also provides coverage of IndyCar and Formula One racing as well.

The news is provided by Free Press partner The Associated Press and is updated automatically. In these modules, found at mankatofreepress.com/ncaabball and mankatofreepress.com/autoracing or in the blue navigation bar at the left of our homepage, you will find game stories, photos and links to team information, player and driver information, standings and interactive features.

Links to both the racing and basketball pages can also be found at mankatofreepress.com/sports or by clicking “sports” on the left hand navigation bar on the homepage.

The addition of the content is a continuation of our efforts to give you news that’s entertaining,

informational and relevant.
