Your View: City was wrong about Marigold 2.5

— Since March, when the Marigold 2.5 project was rolled out, City of North Mankato representatives have stated that there are no setback requirements in the central business district.

After citizens researched city code and brought questions to the City Council, it is now acknowledged that multiple variances are needed for this project, many of them substantial. They include lot area, width and coverage, as well as setbacks, and project size.

The Planning Commission is the body that reviews variance requests and makes recommendations to the City Council whether or not variances should be granted. As required by Minnesota law, these decisions must be based on tests the variance requests must pass.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday in council chambers at City Hall to review  the requests. The council will review their recommendation at 7 p.m. Monday in council chambers at City Hall.

All citizens who have concerns or questions about building Marigold 2.5 in the central business district are urged to attend either, or both, of these meetings.
