Your View: Clark Johnson would be fresh voice in Legislature

— During my 20 years in the Minnesota House of Representatives, I heard many wonderful, memorable speeches for which people were duly praised with "good speech" or "nice job."

I know Clark Johnson will fit in well in that regard -- he is articulate with empathy. What I came to appreciate more and more in the capitol (and tried to improve on myself) were listening skills.

"Good listening" is a less recognized necessity in a body that strives mightily to find 68 votes for any proposal dealing with the complex issues we face. Just because people caucus as "Democrats" or "Republicans" doesn't mean that agreement is a given

In the many years I've known Clark Johnson, I have learned that he listens well. Especially where there is disagreement,  he can also hear where there is agreement and work from there.

He would be an asset to his district and to the state of Minnesota.

I hope there is a good turnout for the special election and that people put their trust in Clark Johnson -- a fresh voice and a fresh pair of ears in the Minnesota Legislature.
