Sept. 17 marks the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America by members of the 1787 Constitutional Convention.
In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned the United States Congress to dedicate Sept. 17-23 to the annual observance of Constitutional Week. The resolution was later adopted by Congress and signed Aug. 1, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
One of the goals of DAR is to remind Americans that the Constitution is a living document that guarantees the freedoms which we, as Americans, enjoy today.
During the month of September, Anthony Wayne Chapter, DAR, is sponsoring displays and providing free bookmarks at regional public libraries, including Mankato, North Mankato, St. Peter, Le Sueur, Waseca, Mapleton, Amboy, New Ulm and New Richland.
Everyone is encouraged to read, understand, support and celebrate our Constitution.
