MANKATO — Mike Parry has conceded the Republican primary for House of Representatives' 1st District. Allen Quist will take on Rep. Tim Walz this fall.
With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Quist led with 12,250 votes, or 53.9 percent. Parry had 10,474 votes.
Parry, a state Senator from Waseca, and Quist, a former state representative from rural St. Peter, have been engaged in an intense and sometimes contentious battle going back to the April Republican endorsing convention in Mankato. Both candidates agreed to abide by the will of the delegates at that convention, but neither could attain the required 60 percent support of delegates despite 14 hours and 23 rounds of balloting by the Republican activists. The deadlocked convention sent the issue to the voters of southern Minnesota in today's primary election.
