JANESVILLE — Authorities have identified the 19-year-old man killed in a Waseca County grain bin Tuesday as Jared Weckwerth.
Weckwerth, a graduate of Janesville High School, was helping a farmer near Janesville remove grain from a grain bin. He went into the bin to increase the flow of crusted corn inside and fell into the corn. When others at the farm realized Weckwerth was missing at about 12:40 p.m., they called for help.
Rescuers from Janesville Fire and Rescue, the Waseca County Sheriff's Department, Waseca Fire and Rescue and New Richland Fire and Rescue responded. They cut holes in the side of the bin to get the corn out quickly, but Weckwerth had died by the time his body was found at about 2:35 p.m., a Waseca County Sheriff's Department report said.
