MANKATO — A man accused of killing two people, including a woman who was apparently on his lap while he was driving, is scheduled to go to trial Oct. 16.
Mark Anders Chalin, 24, is facing two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide for the Aug. 7, 2011, crash where two people were killed. They were Jonna Martin, who was driving in the opposite direction on Blue Earth County Road 90 when she was hit head-on by Chalin, and Chalin's passenger Amber Menezes.
Investigators had received reports that Chalin was swerving and Menezes was straddling him before the crash.
Chalin was charged in March and released on his own recognizance after appearing in court. A Pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 1.
