City to build $6.5 million bus garage

MANKATO — Next fall, Mankato will begin construction on a new $6.5 million bus garage on South Victory Drive at the site of the former MnDOT headquarters now owned by the city.

Federal and state funds will cover the bulk of the project with Mankato kicking in $1.3 million.

The project will include demolition of an annex on the north side of the Public Works building and construction of a bus garage, fueling station and washing facility. The project is slated to be completed by the end of 2014.

The city took over the building after MnDOT built a new headquarters building in Mankato a couple of years ago.

The City Council approved the project at its meeting Monday night.
