East students return to school after bomb-threat evacuation

MANKATO — Students at Mankato East Junior and Senior High School are back in school after both were evacuated this morning due to a bomb threat found at the school.

Students returned to school around noon.

They were taken to safe locations at about 10 a.m. with school officials asking parents not pick up their children. The school was searched by Mankato Department of Public Safety officers and found to be safe for students to return.

East High School students were sent to Hosanna Lutheran Church, ninth-graders and life skills students were sent to Kennedy Elementary School and junior high students were sent to Hilltop Methodist Church.

Parents who have signed up for email or telephone messages are being updated regularly. The threat was found in a note left on a bathroom floor in the high school, according to one of those messages.
