AMBOY —
A Le Sueur man is charged with drunkenly crashing a vehicle into a house, injuring himself and his passenger.
Darrin Matthew Reddick, 28, was driving in the early morning hours of Jan. 14 when he lost control of a vehicle and hit a Le Sueur house, 151 Outer Drive, according to a criminal complaint.
Police were called, and an officer came upon two men in the car: the driver, later identified as Reddick, and a man standing near the passenger's side of the car, later identified as Wayne McCormick, 31.
The officer reports both men tried to flee. But, being injured, they were unable to run and both were apprehended and taken to the hospital. McCormick had a broken pelvis while Reddick had a spine fracture, a cut to a kidney, multiple rib fractures and a depressed skull fracture.
Both men were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Again according to the complaint, McCormick told the officer at the hospital he'd been out drinking with the defendant, who admitted he was driving the car.
A blood sample taken at 2:41 a.m., about 80 minutes after the crash, showed Reddick had a blood-alcohol content of .21 percent.
A State Patrol crash reconstruction specialist reported the vehicle would have been driving between 53 mph and 67 mph when it failed to navigate a turn and hit the house. The house sprung a gas leak as a result of the collision but its owners were unhurt.
Reddick faces eight felony counts, mostly involving injuring someone with a vehicle while intoxicated.
His first court appearance is scheduled for August 7 at 8:30 a.m.
