MANKATO — A North Mankato man who remains on probation for his part in a bank-drop robbery about three years ago has been arrested again for allegedly assaulting another man and threatening him with a handgun.
Kamau Evans, 20, of North Mankato was one of two men arrested for the assault at a residence in the 200 block of Wickfield Drive, which was reported at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday. The 22-year-old victim told police he knew Evans and the second suspect, 19-year-old Trevon Romelle Wynn of Minneapolis.
The victim reported he was at a party at the residence when he heard the police were coming. He is also on probation, so he said he wanted to leave before officers arrived.
As the victim was leaving, he was confronted at the door by Wynn. The victim said Wynn punched him in the head as he turned to go back inside the house, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Blue Earth County District Court.
Someone at the house told the victim he had to leave, so he walked outside and was allegedly attacked by both Wynn and Evans. It was at that point Wynn allegedly pulled a handgun from his waist and pointed it at the victim, the complaint said. Evans also went to a vehicle and allegedly returned with a handgun in his hand.
The victim told police he drove away with his girlfriend even though Evans was telling him to get out of the vehicle. Another man later told the victim Wynn and Evans confronted him because they believed he had stolen an iPod.
A 2002 Olds Bravado was later stopped in the area and Evans and Wynn were found inside. A loaded pistol was found inside the glove compartment of the Bravado, which was being driven by Evans when it was stopped, the complaint said.
The victim received minor injuries during the initial assault, a Department of Public Safety news release said.
Both men appeared in court Monday for charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. Evans also is facing a possible charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and a disorderly conduct charge is being requested for Wynn.
Evans remains on probation for helping another man rob a restaurant employee who was making a late-night bank drop at the First National Bank on Long Street in February 2010. The other man worked with the manager making the drop, so he and Evans were waiting at the bank when the manager arrived. About $800 was stolen at gunpoint.
