NORTH MANKATO —
The North Mankato Port Authority on Wednesday gave out several central business district development grants and loans to businesses.
The Port Authority:
— Approved a $25,000 grant and a $25,000 loan to the NaKato Bar & Grill, the former Bobby Joe’s Pub.
Jim and Janet Downs, who also own Pagliai’s Pizza in Mankato, bought the building and completely renovated the interior and exterior. The NaKato just opened for business.
— Approved a $25,000 grant to the owners of a soon-to-open Expressway gas station and convenience store on Belgrade Avenue.
The owners, who operate other convenience stores, bought the vacant building that had formerly been a Happy Dan’s convenience store.
The owners have spent five months on completely renovating the building and property, including fixing about $80,000 of damage that had been caused while the building was empty when someone removed copper and other items.
— Renewed the terms of a $109,000 loan to the owners of Angie’s Kettle Corn, a loan originally made in 2005 to help with expansion of the business. There is an $82,000 principle balance on the loan. The loan is renewed through 2025.
