Betsy-Tacy Society portrays Victorian Christmas

MANKATO — Christmas was a simpler time during the stories Maud Hart Lovelace wrote in the famous Betsy-Tacy books. Sitting near the wood burning stove decorating a Christmas tree as snow gently falls outside paints an idyllic scene of an easier time.

The Betsy-Tacy Society brought that time back Saturday during their Victorian Christmas celebration. To be sure, there were gifts to be bought at the gift store in Tacy’s House, but in Betsy’s House a cast of characters brought back a winter afternoon of Betsy, Tacy and Tibb stringing popcorn for the Christmas tree in the sitting room.

It seemed only fitting that a fresh blanket of snow coated the ground outside the window where the girls decorated the tree.
