Mankato City Council adopts budget, levy

MANKATO — The Mankato City Council voted to adopt the 2013 city operating budget and a 1.77 percent property tax levy at Monday night’s meeting.

City Manager Pat Hentges said the levy will cost the average $164,000 Mankato homeowner $1.55 more per month.

The 1.77 percent levy increase is reduced from the previously proposed 2.63 percent.

Changes include:

• $250,000 removed for cultural and community facilities
• $120,000 budget contingency for further discussion on police staffing
• waiver of in-kind services for not-for-profit community organizations reinstated ($8,000)
