MANKATO —
he City Council considers final approval today of renovations to the Intergovernmental Center costing up to $750,000.
The changes will provide more space to Mankato Area Public Schools, which will pay back its portion of the project, or $147,077, through increased rental costs.
The City Council will get new chambers in what is now the Mankato Place Mall’s open-air atrium. The new room will also accommodate civic center customers; the current chambers are not seen as good space for meetings.
The project, if approved by the council, is slated to start next month and be finished in December. The construction manager is Brennan Companies, and the architect is Paulsen Architects.
The renovations will be funded through the half-percent sales tax.
The total cost of the project will depend on how low some of the optional features are bid. One of the options, for example, would add a permanent ceiling in place of beams at an expense of about $120,000.
The council will vote on the project during its Monday meeting, set to start at 6 p.m. in the Intergovernmental Center.
