CityArt organizers announce sculpture donation, sales

MANKATO — A Missouri artist with a sculpture in the current sculpture walk is donating the piece to City Center Partnership.

Matt Miller’s “Chasing My Tail Again” is the large bright orange work that stands near the intersection of Second and Walnut streets.

The permanent location for this sculpture is yet to be determined, but it will remain in the City Center of Mankato along the sculpture tour route.

Additionally, CityArt has sold four sculptures since announcing the People’s Choice winner, “Guidance” in November which will be purchased by the City Center Partnership and permanently installed in the City Center of North Mankato.

“Set Me Free” by Judd Nelson of Wayzata was purchased by the MRCI Auxiliary Board.

“News!” by Richards D. Poey of Eden Prairie was purchased by a local couple for their private collection.

“Check Up” by Carol Cunningham of Colorado was purchased by a new business owner in the City Center district.

“Going for the Goal” by Dee Clements of Colorado was purchased through a community fundraising effort headed by the CityArt Committee.

After a successful second year in which over 10,000 visitors viewed the 34 CityArt sculptures, the CityArt Committee is getting ready for the program’s third installment of art.

On March 23 the current sculptures will be removed and the Vetter Stone pedestals will remain empty until May 18, when 34 new sculptures will be installed for the 2013-14 tour.
