WASECA —
The chautauqua was a popular community event during the turn of the 20th Century. Groups of artists and performers would travel around by train and perform dance, music, drama and other cultural events.
The Chautauqua Assembly that visited Waseca’s Maplewood Park in 1883 was well documented. That documentation helped the Waseca County Historical Society revive the chautauqua. Now in its 10th year, Waseca’s chautauqua combines music, art and entertainment with education about the history of Maplewood Park.
