NEW PRAGUE —
Glen Gruenhagen won the vote Tuesday night in New Prague to run against Democrat Mick McGuire to be the successor to retiring Rep. Laura Brod, R-New Prague.
Republicans from House District 25A, which includes all of Le Sueur County and parts of Sibley and Scott counties, met Tuesday night to decide between three candidates: Tony DeLuca of New Prague, a quality assurance executive at Deans Foods Co. in Woodbury; Gruenhagen, an insurance agent and member of the Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board; and Rolando Perez, a computer consultant from New Prague.
All three Republican candidates for the seat had agreed to abide by the endorsement made by the delegates.
Gruenhagen received 47 votes on the second ballot, said Janet Morris, the Le Sueur County Republican Party chairwoman. (To win, one candidate has to receive 60 percent of the vote or they ballot again.)
DeLuca came in second, she said.
McGuire is the mayor of Montgomery.
