Girls On the Run founder coming to Mankato

MANKATO — For several years, the name Girls on the Run has been synonymous with self-esteem building and positive role modeling for girls.

This week, the woman and one-time girl runner who started it all will be in town to see how everything is going in Mankato and to give the program a boost of momentum as it gears up for its fall sessions.

Molly Barker, who founded Girls on the Run in North Carolina in 1996, will attend a Women With Heart luncheon during the day and then a public picnic at Sibley Park in the evening. She’ll be available for anyone who wants to hear her story or learn more about the program that, for the past few years, has served more than 400 girls in the Mankato area.
