MANKATO —
The medical condition of a goalie from the Gustavus Adolphus hockey team who was injured in a head-on crash Tuesday night in Stillwater has improved from critical to serious.
Marah Sobczak, 20, was traveling east on Highway 5 near the Stillwater Lane intersection when her 2004 Honda Civic crashed head on with a Buick driven by 46-year-old Jon Wentz of St. Paul, a State Patrol report said. A spokeswoman at Regions Hospital in St. Paul said Thursday morning that Sobczak was in serious condition.
Wentz was traveling west in the eastbound lane when the two cars collided, the report said. The crash was reported at about 9 p.m.
Sobczak's 15-year-old sister, Kalley, was a passenger in the car. She and Wentz also were taken to Regions Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, the report said.
Marah Sobczak served as the back-up goalie for Gustavus last year and was an academic standout for athletes.
