MANKATO —
Mount Kato general manager Jeff Putrah said it only takes a few inches of fresh snow to bring skiers and snowboarders out to the local ski hill in droves. He was right. It took a little over 2 inches of fresh powder and a week off of school to keep the hill full.
Fortunately for Putrah, Mother Nature has for the most part cooperated this year, filling the hill with enough natural snow to keep all the runs open without his staff having to run snow makers each night. Putrah said he may run a couple late Sunday night to add to the base near the chalet and one of the runs, but that will probably be the last time this season, barring a January thaw.
