MANKATO — Mankato East High School Principal Shane Baier announced Tuesday he will resign as principal at East to return to his home state of South Dakota after this school year.
Baier has accepted the principal position of the middle school in Spearfish, S.D., he said in an email to East parents and students.
“It is very difficult for me to leave Mankato and the East High School community,” he wrote. “This has been a very rich and rewarding experience for me.”
Baier took over at East in the summer of 2008 after longtime East Principal Don Poplau retired. Before that, Baier was principal at Dakota Meadows Middle School.
Supt. Sheri Allen has named Jeff Dahline the interim high school principal at East. Dahline will assume the principal duties July 1.
Baier wrote that he will work with Dahline the next couple of months to help ease the transition. The district will work quickly to hire a new assistant principal, Baier wrote.
“Our high school is committed to excellence in every way and will continue to work every day to achieve our goals for students.”
