MANKATO — A contractor who is taking an estimated 25 extra days to finish a Carney Avenue construction project will be penalized $50,000 by the city.
Civil Ag Group won the $2 million contract for major reconstruction on Carney.
The contract to do the work was signed on May 21, but work didn’t begin until July 16. The contractor had a schedule showing all work would be done by Oct. 5, but the project is not expected to be complete until about Oct. 30.
Under terms of the contract, the contractor is penalized $2,000 for each day the project goes past Oct. 5. The Mankato City Council Monday night approved of assessing the penalty and withholding the amount from the final payment to the contractor.
