Man arrested for bloody beer bottle bonk

Suspect ran from scene, but was found in nearby house

MANKATO — A 20-year-old Owatonna man was arrested Sunday morning for allegedly hitting another man in the head with a beer bottle.

Police officers responded to a report of an assault at 82 Cottage Path at 4:27 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, the 28-year-old victim was holding a towel to his bleeding head, a Mankato Department of Public Safety report said. Witnesses told police the alleged assailant, later identified as Josue Santibanez, ran from the residence where the assault happened and into a nearby house.

That house was searched and Santibanez was arrested. Charges of second-degree assault, fifth-degree assault, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct and underage drinking are being requested.

The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police are withholding his name for safety reasons, so his condition couldn't be obtained.
