MANKATO — Authorities are saying two people arrested for shoplifting in Mankato last week are wanted for taking thousands of dollars of merchandise from stores in several states.
Police received a call at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday reporting two people had just stolen a large amount of merchandise from Walmart. The suspects had taken a suitcase from the store's luggage area and filled it with DVDs from the electronics department.
They left the store and drove away, but video surveillance showed them leaving in a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria. Mankato police put out an alert and the vehicle was stopped south of New Auburn in Sibley County on Highway 22.
Samantha Velez-Diaz, 26, and Noe Baldiva-Corral, 59, were arrested. Investigators later learned from Walmart security employees that the suspects were wanted for more than $80,000 in thefts from several stores in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
